BetBlocker UK — Independence Statement

BetBlocker UK is committed to operating independently of the gambling industry and to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, transparency and public trust.

BetBlocker UK will not accept funding, sponsorship, donations or other financial support from gambling operators or organisations whose primary commercial interests depend upon gambling.

The charity will not allow gambling-industry interests to influence, directly or indirectly:

  • its charitable objectives or priorities;
  • the development, operation or availability of its services;
  • its research, education or public communications;
  • its governance or decision-making;
  • its assessment of gambling-related harms; or
  • the allocation or use of its charitable resources.

BetBlocker UK will remain free to criticise, challenge or disagree with gambling-industry practices, policies or positions whenever doing so is consistent with its charitable purposes and the public interest.

The charity will seek funding from sources that allow it to preserve this independence. No donor, funder, partner or external organisation will have the right to determine BetBlocker UK's policies, services, public statements or strategic priorities.

Governance and conflicts of interest

BetBlocker UK's trustees have a duty to act solely in the best interests of the charity. Actual, potential and perceived conflicts of interest will be identified, declared, recorded and appropriately managed. Where a conflict cannot be adequately managed, BetBlocker UK will take appropriate steps to remove the conflict or refrain from proceeding with the relevant arrangement. This approach reflects Charity Commission guidance on financial and loyalty conflicts.

BetBlocker UK will maintain appropriate records of relevant interests and will ensure that trustees and senior personnel are able to exercise independent judgement without obligations to gambling-industry organisations compromising that judgement.

Transparency

BetBlocker UK will seek to be transparent about the sources of its income and the relationships it maintains with external organisations. Where appropriate, the charity will publish information about significant funding arrangements and relevant potential conflicts of interest.

Our independence is fundamental to our credibility.

BetBlocker UK's commitment is simple: our decisions will be guided by our charitable purposes, evidence, the interests of the people we support and the public interest — not by the commercial interests of the gambling industry.
